LABOUR PARTY.

The energetic committee of the Housewives’ League branch of the New Zealand Labour Party held their monthly social gathering last Thursday. A clear, cool evening ensured a good attendance. The usual programme of competitions, dancing, games and items was provided, the following being the winners: Cake, Mr J. Hodgens; Monte Carlo, Mrs Wright and partner; peanuts, Mr J. Wallace; books and authors, Mr Hunt. Dancing items given by Miss Dorothy McLean (La Militaire), Miss Doreen Murrow (operatic) were enjoyed. Supper was handed round at a suitable interval, and Mr J. Hodgens gave a few words of thanks to all those who helped and gave donations to the recent jumble sale held by the league, and announced another to be held in the near future. He also gave a short but impressive speech ’on the aims of the Labour Party. Regret was expressed at the indisposition of the M.C. of previous occasions, Mr Gulliver, and Mr Luxmore, who so capably assisted at the piano at past socials. A very efficient substitute for M.C. was found in Mr T. Robinson. Mr C. Lloyd was again seated at the piano, playing with untiring ability for the dancing, an extra being given by Mr V. Tippler.
