VOTES BY PROXY.

VALIDITY QUESTIONED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 26. At the adjourned general meeting of the North Island Motor Union Insurance Company to-day the poll for two vacant directorships resulted : —Dr. E. A. Porritt 543, B. I. Donne 451, E. A. Batt 443. A lengthy discussion arose over the validity of approximately 100 proxy votes understood to be for Mr Donne, from New Plymouth. The chairman declared Dr. Porritt and Mr Donne elected, but a motion was adopted disregarding the ruling of the chairman. A motion was then passed for . the directors to investigate the question of proxy votes within three months and to take legal opinion. It is understood that a special general meeting will be convened to consider the report of this investigation.
