The market is activo and prices nre well maintained. Continental and Bradford buyers are the chief operators. A good selection of wool is offering. Sliped prices are 5 per cent higher than at the opening of the series. Russian representatives arn large buyers of Australian combing, greasy, and scourod wools. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. BEST LEVEL OF WEEK. SYDNEY, Sept. 26. At the wool sales 12,434 bales were offered and 11,154 sold, including 882 privately. _ The market closed at the best point of the week with competition strong and keen, particularly from Japan, Yorkshire, Germany, and France. There was, however, some irregularity for burry and dusty fleece and skirtings. Greasy Merino sold to 18Jd. FEILDING HORSE FAIR. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report:—A good entry of horses of all classes was submitted, by us at the Feilding horse fair. The quality on the whole was of a mixed nature, although some, first-class sorts were submitted, and for these tho demand was sound with values probably not so keen as they were at our first spring fair. Aged and inferior draught horses were neglected, with very few sales being effected. Some of our realisations were:—Young draught geldings broken to all work, £35, £37 10s, £4O. £45. £SO; aged draughts, all work, £25, £27 10s, £3O, £32 to £35; spring carters and useful farm horsCs, £15,, £l6, £lB. £2O, £22 10s, £24, £25. Very little inquiry was shown for hacks, this being due no doubt to the fact that quality on the whole was lacking. POTATO MARKET. ADVANCE CONTINUES. STRONG BUYING COMPETITION. AUCKLAND, Sept. 26. The pGl*to market continues to advance and buying competition has forced prices tip to £l6 to £l7 a ton through store. As far as can be ascertained this is the highest price since early in the century; the only comparable figures in recent years being £ls, which was reached in 1928. Potatoes are • now worth more than three times as much as a year ago, when the through store price was around £5 a ton. Moreover, as these high prices arc not bringing any invisible stocks into the markot it is considered likely that even higher prices must rule. Until the Pukckohe crop can take over the demand about the middle cf November the South Island will be the solo source of supply. A shipment to arrive by tho Wingatui on Tuesday is smaller than expected, and has been almost cleared. In fact, some merchants have received inquiries from the South Island regarding the possibility of repurchasmg potatoes shipped by steamer. AUSTRALIAN PRODUCE MARKETS. SYDNEY, Sept. 26.
