ACTIVITIES AT AWAPIAII. CANDIDATES I'OR OTAKI (By “Binocular.”) Perfect conditions were ottering for training operations at Awapuni this morning, there being an absence ot wind, while-the tracks were him. The Hags were closer in than previously and the times registered showed an improvement. Hunting Dodge (U. E. Pine), who will contest t.iu Waitawa Handicap at Otaki, had the Kaliiiiku Handicap candidate Round Score (S. Anderson) as a partner over six furlongs. Hunting Dodge made the pace throughout, but Round facore linished well to be almost on tcrin9 at the post. The first three furlongs were leit behind in 59sec and the six in D2O. Petrarch (Pine), who will revert to flat racing ut Otaki, hold the advantage over Celeritas (Anderson) in a gallop over seven furlongs, the steeplechaser being well clear at the finish after running the first half-miie in 56sec. and the full distance in 1.36 2-5. Celeritas is beautifully bred on bis dam’s side, but he is very ligfit-lramed. Sweet Music (D. 11. Jones) and Merry Knight (Pino) were together, with Hunting Scene (Anderson) beaten off, at the close of a five furlongs sprint. Merry Knight led in the early stages, the fust two furlongs taking 28 sec, but they quickened up to complete the task in 1.1 2-5. Sweet Music, although she has done htt.e fast work, finished very resolutely, while the Grand Knight gelding displayed distinct promise. , Treasure Hunt (Pine), Finnesko (Andci*on) and To Kapua (C. Broughton) were associated in a six furlong gallop, the lastnamed early dropping to the rear.
