REFUSAL OF HELP.
CREW’S LIFE SACRIFICED.
Received September 6, 1.5 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 26.
The captain of the trawler Skegness, which was lost with all hands, refused the aid of the lifeboat when the ship first went ashore, listeners hearing a dramatic radio pleading by another trawler, “For God’s sake, man, let me summon a lifeboat or you’ll lose your lives.” The Skegness replied that she was bumping, but refused aid for half an hour, when it was too late.
An earlier message appears on page 7.
