WAR INEVITABLE
8.15 P.M. EDITION
VIEWS OF ABYSSINIA. FEVERISH PREPARATIONS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received September 26, 12.25 p.m. ADDIS ABADA, Sept. 25. Abyssinia is now convinced of the inevitability of war, though she is determined she won’t fire the first shot, She has requested the League to immediately despatch by air the suggested international commission to determine which side commences the threatened hostilities. The Emperor offers to meet the commissioners’ expenses and promises them full co-operation. Simultaneously with the mobilisation, the Abyssinians, directed by foreign engineers, are feverishly constructing defences on the Djibouti railway, fortifying the mountainous approaches to the line in order to prevent a successful junction of the Italian forces attacking from the north and south. The frontier roads to Harrar are closed, and even the British Consul was refused a passage. Troops are moving in Ogaden in modern motor lorries.
