FINANCIAL BACKING
SIR C. KINGSFORD SMITH.
TRANS-TASMAN ROUTE
MORE THAN £IOO,OOO,
(United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received September 25, 9.50 a.m.
BRISBANE, Sept. 25. Mr H. C. Armstrong, representative in Australia of the British Pacific Trust, said that the trust had ottered to back Sir Charles Kingsford Smith to the extent of more than £IOO,OOO in his proposed trans-Tasman air service.
Air Armstrong said it was recognised in many directions that Sir Charles Kingslord Smith was more or less entitled to this section of the route which lie had done so much to pioneer. Contrary to the expectation that the trust’s control of the British Sikorsky flying-boat output would upset Sir Charles’s plans, the trust, on being informed of his intentions, has advised that it will endeavour to facilitate them.
“Tbe trust has cabled me. that, subject to agreement as to plans and methods, it would be willing to interest itself in the provision of capital for Sir Charles Kingsford Smith’s enterprise to an amount exceeding £100,060. Discussion of this offer is likely to follow,” said Air Armstrong.
