LEVIN BRANCH’S MEETING
I Mr H. Denton presided at the : monthly meeting or the Levin branch jof the Farmers’ Union. Letters were | received from Messrs S. It. Thomson (Abraham and Williams, Ltd.) and W. T. Hammond (N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.) arranging for a meeting with a sub-committee from the union to discuss the time of starting I the weekly stock sale, also the ques- | tions of speeding up and conditions I of sale. The chairman said that a meetj ing had been held at which the auc- | tioneering firms’ representatives had j agreed to bring down a schedule and j to report on same at a further meeting of the union. A letter was received from the OtakiTe Horo branch asking the local branch to appoint a date on which the various branches could meet to discuss the request from the Manawatu provincial executive for special consideration of the following remit: —“That the executive stresses the point that the Government instruct the Commissioner of the Rural Mortgagors Adjustment Court to set a wage for farmers coming under budgetary control equivalent to an artisan’s, plus compensation for extra hours worked.’’ The arranging of a suitable date was left to the secretary to attend to.
Notice was drawn to a number of resignations of members whose subscriptions had been paid through stock firms by way of orders. The provincial secretary wrote asking what the branch bad done ip certain circumstances. —The secretary stated that he had written to the executive explaining the position as regards local members.
