FIRE IN WHARF SHED.
DANGER FROM EXPLOSIVES. OPOTIKI, Sept. 23. Fire broke out early last evening in a goods shed at Mr W. Walker’s private wdiarf, near the Opotiki wharf. Considerable difficulty was experienced in suppressing the fire, which had a good hold when it was noticed, owing to a quantity of hay being in the shed. The firemen had to face an additional danger in fighting the outbreak, owing to there being a quantity of explosives in the shed. Detonations occurred at intervals, but no one was hurt.
