WOODVILLE, Sept. 13. The monthly meeting of the Woodvillc Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr 11. P. Horne) presiding. Mr L. O. Hooker, wrote with regard to tho health stamp campaign. The Mayor moved that the council purchase £5 worth of stamps, which was the equivalent of a donation of £2 10s to the fund. The j motion was seconded by Or Sullivan and carried. The Transport Department fori warded details of a proposed new system of apportioning heavy traffic foes. The Mayor said that boroughs and counties in Hawke’s Ba3' had an arrangement which was working quite satisfactorily, lie moved that the department be advised that the council was satisfied with tho present ar- ; rangement. Cr Johnston seconded the motion which was carried. As Mr W. Gribner is leaving the district Mr J. Sinclair was appointed dog-tax collector and it was de- . cided to call for applications for the position of ranger. The Mayor stated the reason for the reservoirs being so low was tho wet weather, the stream at tho intake being dirty. Gr Olsson referred to the condition of the watertables in Gordon Street and tho clerk stated the matter was on the list for attention. Tho reserves committee was empowered to carry out minor repairs at tho baths and to have the inside treated with white cement wash. '1 he Mayor said tho installation of the booster for the waterworks would be completed at an early date. Tiie works committee was instructed to prepare a schedule of streets for grading and to have the work carried out as soon as the grader is available. Acting on the recommendation of the gas and lighting committee the council decided to call for tenders for repairs to the gas manager’s house and to the gasworks buildings. Mr S. Turnbull prcsicicd at the annual meeting of the Woodvillc Anglers’ Club. In reporting on the past year’s activities, tho president congratulated the members on the keen interest displayed during the bC/ison. He stated that the Manawatu River had fished very well though the fish were inclined to be small, in fact a feature right through the season was the number of fish from ux to ten inches that wore caught. Pic considered that it showed that the river was well stocked and than this year the fishing should show a considerable improvement. At the monthly meeting of the Woodvillc branch of the W.D.F. U., Airs Graham presided over a good attendance. The president extended a welcome to members of the Woodvilie Women’s Institute, who were present by invitation. One new member 1 was also welcomed. Correspondence in rcj fercnce to the children’s health campaign j was received and it was resolved to further tho cause in every way possible. Arrangements for the birthday party were left in the hands of tho committee. Aliss 11. Jolin- ■ ston, B.H.Sc., of Alasscy College, and Aliss Scyficld, also of Alasscy College, wore introduced to the meeting. Aliss Johnston gave an interesting outline of the work done by the home science branch of Otago University. The competition was. a bowl ol narcissi. Airs Davidson was first, Mrs Mitchell second, and Mrs G. Sinclair third. The president returned thanks to Airs Halpin for arranging for the demonstration, to the hostesses (Mesdames Alitehell, Gray and Hume), and to Airs R. Alunro and Airs Sinclair for acting 'as judge and steward respectively for the competitions. All's A. Jenkins, of Masterton, is the guest of Air and Airs H. Lovell, Woodvilie. AIAs I.
