ltev. W. AV. French, of Maheno, has accepted a call to the charge of St. Peter’s Church, Woolston. Mr A. E. Sandford, manager of the Hamilton branch of the Union Bank of Australia, and formerly of Feilding, has returned to Hamilton, after a tour of the South Sea Islands. Mr H. E. Davis, London manager of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board, who recently returned to New Zealand on a business trip, is visiting relatives in Central Otago. The friends of Mr A. E. Loveday, of the money order department at the Palmerston North Post Office, will regret to learn that he was taken ill at the beginning of the week. Mr Loveday is undergoing treatment in a private hospital. Mr IT. R. Duller, who passed away in a private hospital in Palmerston North on Tuesday, was a member of tire railway, service, having been stationed at this centre for the past 10 years. Mr Duller joined the department at New Plymouth, where he rose to the position of guard. Later he was on the shunting staff at Frankton Junction prior to coming to Palmerston North as goods foreman in January, 1925. Unfortunately, his health had been indifferent for some time past and it led to his transfer to the position of car storeman and ultimately to his retirement in April last. In addition to his widow, he leaves a stepson and two step-daughters. Mr AV. T. AA r ood, who formerly resided in Palmerston North, but now lives in Sydney, arrived on a visit to the city to-clay. Mr AA'ood was formerly Mayor of Palmerston North and, in addition, represented the constituency in the House of Representatives for a number of years. He is now on holiday in the Dominion. He visited the AA r anganui races yesterday with his son to see the latter’s horse run, and will return there to-morrow morning to witness the second day’s events. It ;s his- intention to return to this centre in about a fortnight for a week’s stay, when he will have ample opportunity of renewing many old acquaintanceships. Mr Wood is one of the only two living original charter members of the Oroua Lodge of Druids, and it was mentioned at a recent meeting of the lodge that it was hoped that he would be in attendance on the next lodge night. He has also had a lengthy connection with the local branch of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows.
