MAGISTRATE'S COURT
CASE AT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 12. Two young men employed in the warehouse of Arthur It. Nathan were charged to-day with stealing goods. A third man. partner in a suburban business, was charged with receiving. The two first-named were Keith Desmond Whitburn and Douglas ' Henry Pharo, and the third was Arthur Hookwav. The police said that another employee of the firm noticed an order about to be dispatched containing moro goods than were listed, and informed Air Nathan. It transpired that Whitburn was in the habit of calling on Hookway and collecting about tO or CO per cent, of the value of surplus goods. He took Plraro into his confidence, giving him some of the proceeds. The value of the goods traced was £46. while £34 worth were recovered. Both the accused frankly confessed.
After hearing counsel’s appeals the Magistrate (Mr F. K. Hunt) admitted Pharo to probation for a year, and Whitburn and Hookway to probation for two years.
