SECRETARY-ORGANISER TO BE APPOINTED.

The executive committee of the Palmerston North 50,000 Club met yesterday afternoon, there being present:—Mr F. Jackson (president, in the chair), Messrs Townshend, Priest, Lareomb, Aitchison, Rabone, Just, Day, Kissling, Clark Stuart, Ireland, Tenncnt, J. A. Nasli, M.P. and A. E. Mansford (Mayor). Apologies for absence were tendered on belialf of Messrs Free, Lascelles, Wallace, and Tremaine:

Tlie special sub-committee comprising Messrs Jackson, Lareomb, Ireland, Townshend, and Priest set up to pre])arc conditions of employnient of secretary, submitted their report. The meeting added one or two clauses and it was decided to advertise for applications for the office of organisersecretary on the following basis of remuneration :—“The organiser-secretary to be a part time official with the first call on his services by the club, at a salary of £250 per annum plus 10 per cent, commission on subscriptions, limited to £IOO, and making a maximum of £350 for the first year; the official to provide office, telephone, and office equipment in a location to be approved ; the position to be reviewed at the end of the first year.”

Mr Kissling offered to provide a supply of terms of appointment and the position is to he advertised in Auckland, Christchurch, 'Wellington, and in Palmerston North.

Mr A. M. Ongley was appointed honorary solicitor to the club, and it was decided to arrange with him for its incorporation.

Mr J. Ireland was elected hon. treasurer. The appointment of a lion, auditor was held over meantime.

An emergency committee comprising the president, the Mayor, and Mr P. S. Lareomb was set up to attend to urgent matters.

It was decided to make application to the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association for renrescntati’"'s from the club to be appointed to the general committee of the association, and Messrs Jackson. Townshend. and Ireland were deputed to wait on the association to present the club’s views.

A letter was received from Mr Colin A. Gillett enclosing subscription from bis wife and himself and a donation to the funds. It was decided to write Mr Gillett with the club’s thanks.

It was decided to hold over the approval of a club badge in the meantime.

SOUTH PACIFIC EXHIBITION. Mr Kissling spoke of the proposed exhibition to be held in Palmerston North in 1937 and sought the assistance of the club. Mr Nash pointed out, however, that Wellington were already well advanced in the arrangements for an exhibition in 1940 and it would not be advisable to clash with this effort. Mr Mansford confirmed what Mr Nash said and it was decided to hold the matter over in the meantime, although 1937 was the 60th year of the founding of the borough of Palmerston North and some commemoration function could no doubt be organised. FINANCE. Pending the club getting properly started funds will be required and tbe executive agreed as individuals to each guarantee £lO towards the first year’s expenses. Mr Lareomb, who is acting as secretary meantime, reported that many people were keenly desirous of enrolling as members and it was decided to accept subscriptions and these can be paid to Mr Lareomb, 26 Rangitikei Street. The applications for the position of organiser-secretary will close on September 14. and the committee that prepared tbe terms of tbe position will consider tlie applications on September 16 and bring down a report to the executive.
