COUNCIL MEETING. The Tv ini tea Comity Council met at Kimbolton on Wednesday, Cr L. T. McLean presiding. Also present woro Crs. W. P. tshaw. J. A. T. Brown, D. T. Cooper, W. G. Claphani, J. Beard, F. E. Tappin, J. A. Williamson and W. Hair. COREESPONDENCE. From the Public Works Department, advising payment of balance of the subsidy on the maintenance of main highways in the county for the year ended March 31, 1935, amounting to £63 8s 7d.—Received. From the Valuer-General, regarding claims for subsidy on general rates for the year 1934-35, advising that in order to expedite the payment of claims received, the department had decided to ask all local bodies to make out their claims in greater detail.— To be attended to. From the Commissioner of Transport, with reference to the apportionment of heavy traffic license fees in terms of the heavy motor vehicle regulations, 1932, setting out details of the change proposed to be made. — Received. From the Commissioner of Transport, 6etitng forth the Transport Department’s requirements in connection with the check on brakes and lights of motor vehicles.—The clerk reported that the county had co-operated with the other counties in the group. From the Medical Officer of Health, advising that the total cost of maintaining the health inspector for this county for the six months ended March 31, 1935, had been slightly less than the estimate on which the council’s contribution was based, and that the contribution for the June quarter had been adjusted accordingly.—Received.

From the Postmaster, Feilding, acknowledging receipt of the council’s letter regarding the trees growing on the department’s property at Kiwitea, and advising that the matter will receive early attention.—The clerk reported that some of the trees had been removed, but some still required attention.

From the Loyal Kimbolton Lodge. M.U.1.0.0.F.. thanking the council for the attention given to the footpath fronting the lodge property in Edward Street. —Received. OVERSEER’S REPORT.

The county overseer (Mr F. H. Tggers) reported, inter alia, as follows on the county roads: “Numbers 52,53 and 377 sections of main highways have been kept in fair condition by the grader, and pot-hole repairs carried out. Numerous slips have been removed on No. 52 highway in the Hautapu riding, and similar work carried out on Nos. 53 and 377 main highways. The roadmen have also attended to the work of repairing surfaces and cleaning out of water-tables. It will be necessary to construct a stone groyne for the protection of the timber bridge approach on No. 377 main highway near ltewa, in order to prevent further erosion. Roads other than main highways: Cheltenham riding: Grading work has been carried out on the Cheltenham Cross, Beaconsfield Valley, Hayne’s, Levitt’s and Barrow's Roads. Pot-hole repair work has received attention and small slips have been removed, and grading work carried out. Kiwitea riding: Perry’s and Conker’s Roads have been improved by No. 2 grader plant. Pot-hole repairs have been attended to and small slips removed, ■ and the usual maintenance work attended to. Waituna riding: The roadman has attended to the usual maintenance work and removing slips, as well as being engaged most of his time attending to necessary work on No. 377 main Highway. Ongo riding: The main section of the Parorangi Road and Wilson’s Line have been trimmed by the No. 2 grader plant, and small slips removed. The usual maintenance work has been attended to. The roadman has also attended to work on the main highway, as well as assisting with work in tire Cheltenham riding. Kimbolton riding: The roadmen, have assisted with the maintenance work on the section of Nos. 52 and 53 main highways and roads other than main highways in the riding. Small slips have been removed and pot-hole repairs carried out. The approach to Parson’s Ford bridge on the Terrace Road has been improved. The roadmen have also screened metal in ’the Kimbolton pit for pot-hole repair work, as well as assisting with the testing of a new pit in the Peep-o-Day riding. Peep-o-D.iy riding: The roadman on' the eastern section of the riding lias been engaged in effecting repairs on the section of No. 52 main highway ; also attending to' maintenance work on Middle, Bluff, Peep-o-Day and Hogg s Roads. On the western section the roadman has attended to maintenance work, as well as slips and repairing the decking on the Pakihikura Road bridge. A road subsidence took place on the Pakihikura Road near the junction with the Kiwitea.-Tapua© Road. I have arranged to have this short section of road widened, and the work is now in progress. Pakihikura riding: The continuous wet weather has brought down a number of large slips, the Otara Hill and Peka Road suffering most. I have employed quite .a number of extra hands to cope with tire work. Slips also came down on the clay section of the Waipura Road, and these have since been removed ; 7 i cubic yards of rough metal have been carted out in order to repair subsidences on Marshall’s Road. The landslide on this road is still giving a lot of trouble. A few yards of metal have been carted out from Otara Hill for repairs to weak places on the Waipura Road. Arrangements have been made to carry out pot-hole repairs on Stewart’s Flat. A fair amount of work has been carried out opening culverts, removing slips and cleaning watertables on the Mangarere Road.” —Adopted. RATE STATEMENT.

Mr W. Hesseltine, treasurer, reported on the county rate collections as follows: —General rates, 1935-36: Struck, £6085 13s 9d; paid and rebate, £63 7s 4d; outstanding to date, £6022 6s sd. Special, 1935-36: Struck, £2444 10s 9d; paid and thirds, £2l 4s sd; outstanding to date, £2423 6s 4d. Hospital, 1935-36: Struck, £2704 Is 9d; paid, £2B 2s 8d; outstanding to date, £2675 19s Id. Arrears (3 years) .—General: Outstanding at April 1, 1935, £431 Is 3d; paid, £55 9s; outstanding to date, £375 12s 3d. Special: Outstanding at April 1, 1935, £215 7s 4d; paid, £37 18s lid; outstanding to date, £177 8s sd. GENERAL. The application of Mr H. H. Bryce,

Rangiwahia, to fence the school road at Ilinau was granted. A request by the Mangarimu School Committee for three concrete pipes for drainago purposes at the school was also granted. Messrs L. R. Dalziell (Ohingaiti), A. M. Caird (Ivarewarewa) and R. E. Beckett (Hinau) applied for permission to erect boundary fences nearer the road line, the requests all being granted subject to the usual conditions.
