GUN CLUB.

ACTIVITIES REVIEWED. The annual' meeting of the Palmerston North Gun Club was held last evening conjointly with a smoke concert. Mr N. D. Stubbs presided over a large attendance. Mention was made of the illness of Mr J. Egan, who is at present in hospital, and it was decided to send him a letter of sympathy. Tlie report stated that the financial position of the club was still sound. At the end of the season the balance was £lB7 8s 6d. which showed a loss of £2 13s; but against this the committee effected improvements costing £2 15s. Tho Wellington provincial championship was competed for under the management of the committee, but owing to an unfortunate circumstance about tho date there were not as many competitors as was expected. However, the club was fortunate in coming out without showing a loss. During the season members paid visits to the Wanganui and Hutt Valley Gun Clubs and had a very enjoyable shoot on each occasion. Several members of tho Palmerston .North Gun Club attended the New Zealand gun clubs’ championships at Auckland and were successful in securing a fair share of tlie prize money. The thanks of the club were due to the following gentlemen for presenting trophies: Messrs E. R. Wimsett, J. Davidson, W. A. Thomson, N. Ivearins, H. Collinson, R. K. Thomson. N. D. Stubbs. W. M . Conk, A. W. Akers, C. A. Rofe, L. Mi 11 ward, It. G. Smith, A. E. Hansel, Basil Thomson, W. J. Beard. IV. H. Tisdall and F. Farmer. The Cook Cup was won outright during the 1934 season by Mr C. A. Rofe, and the thanks of the club were due to NTr W. W. Cook, who had generously presented another cup to be known as the W allace Cook Cup. The first winner was Mr W. A. Thomson, who also won the club championship and the Luoni Cup, as well as the Wellington provincial championship. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted without discussion. Hay and Rev. lather Hegarty; secretary, Mr J. B. O Sullivan ; treasurer, Mr W. A. Thomson; hon. auditor, Mr W. Hunter; handicapper, Mr J. Egan; committee, Messrs W. A. Thomson B. K. Thomson, M. Kearins, J. Egan, P. A. Meehan, Peter Meehan, H. Collinson, W W. Cook, A. W. Akers, E. R. Wimsett, L. G. Millward, W. Turner and F. Farmer. Reviewing tlie prospects foi tlie coming season the president appealed for a combined effort to secure new members, suggesting that a system of handicapping that would give younger shooters a chance of competing with the older men might well be introduced into the Palmerston North Gun Club. The proposal was supported by Mr Millward. . . . , It was finallv decided that it be a recommendation to the. incoming committee that a novice class should be instituted and the handicapping so arranged to encourage the young shooters, who will not be required to subscribe to sweepstakes except to those arranged among themselves.
