LANDS OF PACIFIC

HEALTH CONFERENCE. TO BE HELD IN SYDNEY. Problems affecting the health of Pacific countries will be discussed at an international conference which will be opened in Sydney on September 3 by the Federal Minister for Health (Mr Hughes). After the conference, the delegates will visit Canberra as the guests of the Federal Government, and will then travel to Melbourne to attend the meeting of the British Medical Association. The conference in Sydney, which was convened on behalf of the hederal Government by the Director-General of Health (Dr J. H. L. Cumpston), will occupy three days. Among the questions to bo discussed will be diseases of indigenous peoples, notably malaria and leprosy, and maladies affecting nonindigenous races; diet in relation to climate ; problems consequent upon the extension of air services: co-ordination or research; and medical education of natives to fit them to assist in the treatment of their own people. Countries represented will include Federated Malay , States, Dr G. A. llyrie; Fiji, Dr A. H. B. Pearce, who will also represeat Britain; Gilbert and Ellice Islands, Mr F. E. Montague ; Japan, Dr Genzo Katoh; Netherlands East Indies. Dr H. de Rook: China, Dr \Vu Lien Teh; New Zealand, Dr M. H Watt; Papua, Dr W. M. Strong; New Guinea, Dr E. T. Brennan; Norfolk Island, Dr L. S. Duke; Northern Territory, Dr C. E. Cook. The Leagmo of Nations will be represented by Mr C. L. Park. The conference will be the first to be held at the School of Tropical Health and Medicine, Sydney.
