LOUD THUNDER. TORRENTS AT HAMILTON. HAIL PILED UP IN STREETS. HAMILTON, Aug. 20. One of the severest thunder storms experienced in Hamilton for years struck the town about 4.30 yesterday morning. After a vivid display of lightning and loud claps of thunder rain came down in torrents accompaniby a howling north-westerly gale. Hail and sleet piled up about houses, many of which trembled in the fury of the storm. The streets were covered with hail that looked like snow.

Considerable damage is reported to gardens, but nothing of a serious nature. The Waikato River has overflowed its banks at the motor camp, which is very low lying. A tree fell across the Gordonton power line, and there was an interruption of the power service for that district which lasted two hours and a half.

Pressure is still low to the south and east, but an intense 'anti-cyclone now extends across the Tasman Sea on to northern New Zealand.
