TARANAKI’S VISITATION. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH. Aug. 21. Last night and this morning Taranaki experienced the most bitter weather of this winter. Temperatures were very low and lieavv snow fell on the mountain and tho ranges, extending down all the tracks and a considerable distance beyond the radius line* Ploughs were necessary to clear tho tracks to the North Egmont and Dawson Falls Hostels, which had a fall of 9 inches of snow. Interrupted communication lines prevented contact with Stratford House, where the depth of snow is 12 inches. . North and east of the mountain tho countryside over a very wide area is covered in a mantle of snow, several inches deep, while snow fell in Stratford for several hours and for over an hour in Inglewood this morning. New Plymouth experienced hail and sleet. Motor cars reaching town from the south carried little heaps of hail and snow on tho running boards, and. the hoods. About noon the conditions improved and temperatures rose, but early this afternoon the weather wai again threatening. . NATIONAL PARK ROADS BLOCKED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 21. A report from National Park states that tho roads are blocked by heavy snow. Gangs are endeavouring to open communication with the Chateau. There is two feet of snow on Bruce Road. The snow storms are continuing.
