WAIATA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WAIATA Aug. 21. The adverse weather conditions again affected the attendance of the fortnightly euchre party held at the school on Friday night and only about twonty players wore present. Nevertheless an onjoyablo night of card playing was spent. Trophies wore won as follow:—Ladies, Miss A. Mulholland 1, Mrs Corby (consolation); men, Mr W, Turner 1, Mr J 3. Miers 2. As a small gathering was present no dance followed the cards.

Life on the farms is proving very busy just now, with shepherding taking up a largo part of the day and dairy herds to be attended to. The weather has proved very trying also, and has caused some mortality among young lambs, although the Hill farmers are more fortunate in this icspect than those on the fiat, low lying country. To add to troubles, strange dogs have visited several farms and have done considerable damage to sheep. Telephones are often in use, as each farmer notifies others as to where the dogs wore last seen, and precautions are at once taken. The dogs havo shown great cunning so far, and have never lingered long in one place. Farmers who havo suffered are very annoyed and are keen to shoot tho killers.
