TROTTING.

CANDIDATES FOR AUCKLAND. TODD LONZIA’S CAREER. When she raced at the Auckland meeting last season, Spessiva displayed enough dash to keep m mind for future engagements, and she is one of the most likely to effect a surprise in the Mount Eden Handicap at Epsom. Spessiva has been working along steadily, and has improved of late with a couple of strong workcuts. She will probably be driven in her engagements by A. Bryce. in the meantime, the once brilliant pacer and trotetr Wracklor appears to have lost all form. Wracklor started his career as a pacer, and showed exceptional form, having a New Zealand Cup to his credit amongst other victories. Then he was raced at tho trotting gait, and quickly reached the very best class amongst the unhoppled division. Ho is now back at tho pacing gait, but docs not appear to be able to show cither speed or stamina.

Elissa, who claims engagements in the novice trotting events to be decided at the Auckland meeting, is a half-sister to the improving young pacer ChcrriU. Elissa has only started on one occasion, about two years ago, when she failed to gain a place at Epsom. She has since been out in tho paddock, but has recently joined W. T. Dye’s stable at Epsom. She has not been set any serious tasks as yet. but trots very solidly. Although he will be having his first race since the Auckland Christmas meeting, Proletarian is sure to come in for solid support when paraded in the Mount Eden Handicap at Epsom. This colt promised to turn out a really line pacer as a thrcc-year-oid, but failed to race as well as expected. After her good second to Captain Bolt on tho second day of the Auckland meeting in June, Nelson’s Glory will carry plenty of money in the Introductory Handicap at Epsom. This mare has taken a long time to come right, but her owner, Mr D. Bridcson, has exercised a lot ot patience with tho Nelson Bingen marc, and he looks like being rewarded. Nelson’s Glory has speed, and stays really well, but is as yet inclined to leave her feet when the pressuro is applied. She is getting better all the time. The inclusion of War Buoy among those engaged in the principal events to be run at tho Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting will arouse a lot. of interest,, but will affect the race from a bolting pcint of view. The southern pacer has a record that has seldom bee-i equalled in tho history of trotting in the Dominion, and it will take a pretty good performance on tho part of the others engaged to bring about his defeat, says an exchange. War Buoy still requires a win over two miles before lie is eligible to compete in the New Zealand Trotting Cup, and this will bo about his last chance.

Todd Lonzia’s winning performances at Addington last week made it plain that ho has not finished his career as a stakeearner; in fact, his success in the Addington Handicap was ono of the easiest at the meeting, and he has only to remain sound to add to his list of victories over all distances this season, says a writer. In last Friday’s race lie gave a field of eleven horses up to 72vds start, and had the race won four furlongs from home. From there on D. C. Watts allowed him to coast along until the straight was reached, where ho simply strolled to the front, and won by as much as his driver wanted him to. Todd Lonzia was bred by his owner, Mr C. Hudson, at Dunedin. but is raced on lease by Mr A. 11. Todd. Todd Lonzia was educated and developed by A. Cox at Addington, and at Dunedin in 1930, Todd Lonzia, then a two-vear-oid, established a new record for a horse of his age and gait by trotting a mile in 2.22 2-5. He has won a largo number of races, and in 1933 ho stepped a mile in 2.9. Todd Lonzia is by the American sire Lorcno’s Todd, from Daphne Dean, who is by Copa do Oro (1.59) from Daphno Wilkes, by Harold Wilkes, by Qutncey, from Daphne, by Prince Imperial.
