MISHAP TO RED MANFRED.

SENIOR'S PROGRAMME. (By “Binocular.”) J. Mcßae will havo the mount on Valpai in his engagements at Ellcrslio on Saturday. Imamint is evidently returning to form, although probably she will do better after sho has had a race or two. Crickot Bat has failed to stand up to a preparation and has been retired to the stud.

Reports from Melbourne state that Rod Manfred sufforod a mishap shortly after arriving there, which necessitated his boing cased up. J. Day, who was injurod when Va'pai fell with him at the Great Northern meeting at Ellcrslio, has resumed work at Te Rapa, having made a good recovery. Senior is stated to have made good progress in hie preparation at AVoodville, and to be looking m first class order. The Chief Ruler gelding will race at AA’anganui and may later oontest tho Avondale Cup. Last season Yalarth did not stay particularly well, but he won the AA’oo'ston Handicap, a seven furlongs event, at Iticcarton so easily that it would seem that a longer journey is now within his range. The six-year old golding Joy Stick has been disposed of by Mrs Preston, of AVaipawa, to a patron of P. T. Hogan’s stablo at Timaru. Ho changed hands at 75gns and, as his recent form has been promising enough this figure docs not appear to be excessive.

Mr W. Kirkland, of Foxton, intends paying Australia a visit and lie will tako across the Tasman his threc-year-old filly Link Divine, by Captain liunsby from Silver Link. She will be trained at Caulfield by P. Quinlan. Riding engagements announced for the Pakuranga Hunt meeting on Saturday include: —J. Burgess, Kiltowyn, Ardmanning (both starts); H. Goldfinch. McConkey will take Bachelor Song, Royal Legion, Ivy Done, and Lady Gold across the Tasman next week. The last named pair are Itwo-ycar-olds. McConkey will later return to tho Dominion and break in the final batch of Mr Kemball’s juveniles. Galileo will be making her thrce-ycar-old debut at tho Pakuranga Hunt meeting and in view of her two-year-old performances interest will attach to her showing in tho open six. Reports from To Awamutu credit her with working along pleasingly in tier preparation and she will certainly not bo at a discard in the betFulliam, -who was successful recently in the Australian Steeplechase, earned distinction early last month by winning the Victoria Grand National Hurdles, the race which provided a sensation when 1* u.l Charge, the hottest favourite on record, fell at tho first hurdle. Fulham fell m the Grand National Steeplechase, but the easier fences at Caulfield suited him, while his speed was too much for the regular steeplechasers. That he can stay is no surprise, as lie is by I’oitrel, one of tho best stayers bred in Australia in recent years.
