PAHIATUA. Aug. 21. In response to the notification that a meeting of all interested in the formation of a platoon of the Hawke s Bav Regiment at Prhiatua would lie held in the Drill Hall last evening over fortv young men attended, a more than gratifying number. The gathering was successful in its object, a strong platoon being easily formed. Major J. H. Irvine and AdjutantCaptain Bougard, M.C.. of the Defence Department, were present to explain the objects of the movement as well as other officers from Dannevirke. Captain Felix Bolton, the local sponsor of the platoon, introduced the visitors. . Miss lv. Pattle, Oamaru, is the guest of Mrs J. D. C. Crewe, Wakeman Street. Miss McLay, travelling secretary of the W.C.T.U., is the guest of Mrs 'll. Paterson.
