RANGITIKEI.

MARTON, Aug. 19. A meeting of the Rangitikei Cricket Association was held on Saturday evening, Mr G. L. Marshall presiding. The main topic for discussion was the visit to Marton of the M.C.C. touring team on January 31 and February 1 next year. The chairman reported that the required guarantee had been promised by various supporters, but all of the money was not yet paid in. It was decided that half the sum required should be forwarded to the New Zealand Cricket Council, and that Mr Marshall interview the secretary of the council concerning the balance, when in Christchurch next month. Mr H. F. Arkwright, for the grounds committee, made a. report on various matters requiring attention, and stated that in view of the M.C.C. visit the wickets and outfield should receive special care, and it was suggested by his

committee that another man be engaged. The proposal was approved. On Saturday a six-mile hairier race was held for the Runnymede Cup, presented by Mr A. Stuart, M.P. There were 16 starters and a large crowd followed the race in cars, all meeting at “Runnymede,” where the event finished to be entertained by Mr and Mrs Stuart. K. Kerr, a new recruit to the sport, proved the winner, with R Parkinson seoond and L. Sanders third. D. Smith registered fastest time.
