ABOLITION SOUGHT

EIGHT-OARED RACE.

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 21. “It is nothing hut a farce,” declared Mr W. G. Alack when the holding of the inter-island eight-oared race was discussed at a meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Rowing Association last evening. It was decided to press for the abolition of the race. It was also decided to have placed on the order paper for the annual meeting of delegates of the New Zealand Association a remit to the effect that the race be abolished, as it was serving no purpose and as it was of no interest.
