OBITUARY.

MR H. H. BRIDGE. The death occurred recently of Mr Henry Hamilton Bridge at his homo in London. Mr Bridge was well known in the Woodville district. He was one of the pioneer sheep farmers on the Ruatamwha Plains. Arriving al>out sixty years ago, he acquired the Fairfield Station, of some 10,000 acres, and converted it from scrub, fern and swamp into one of the finest properties in the district. He was a most successful breeder of Romney sheep, having one of the best Hooks in the country. At one time lie owned a large farm, “Droxford,” on the Napier Road, Woodville, and various town sections, one of which he presented to the Woodville Borough to he used for some useful or ornamental purpose when funds became available. Ho was also interested in the Church of England at AVoodville, and in its earlier days gave liberally towards its upkeep. The yicar (Rev. G. W. Davidson) made feeling reference to the late Air Bridge on Sunday and summed up his character in a final reference as “a kind and generous Christian gentleman.” When 90 years old, at the time of the 1931 earthquake, Mr Bridge worshipped in the AVoodville Church and was always keenly interested in the progress of AA’oodville. As a pioneer and progressive settler ho was held in the highest esteem by all who know him. He leaves a widow and two sons.
