Brigadier and Mrs Baer, who for five years have been the Otago and Southland divisional commanders of the Salvation Army, have been transferred to Auckland.

Mr J. M. McLean, of Alfredton, who has returned from a motor tour of the Wairarapa and Wellington districts, is visiting Mr J. H. Davenport, of “Woodstock,” Kenepuhi, Feildmg. Mr W. B. Matheson has resigned the position of honorary Dominion treasurer of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. He is a life member of the union and has served as a Dominion vice-president.

Mr W. J. Poison, M.P., was elected president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union at tlio annual Dominion conference of the union yesterday. The other candidate was Mr H. O. Mellsop (Auckland) who congratulated Mr Poison on liis return.

The Technical School Committee, at their meeting last evening, passed a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr S. Kilgour, caretaker of the Technical School, who passed away last week, and placed on record appreciation of Mr Kilgour’s faithful service over a period of years. Mr W. A. Bryden, B.Cpm., has resigned from the teaching staff of the Palmerston North Technical School to join a commercial firm in Wellington. The Technical School Committee, last evening, received Mr Bryden’s resignation with regret and placed on record appreciation of his excellent services. Mr O. Naumann, who lias been appointed to succeed Mr Will Hutchens as conductor of the Wanganui Orchestral Society, has had a long experience in orchestral work, having been a member of orchestral societies in Dunedin, Christchurch, and Palmerston North, besides taking part in numerous musical carnivals.

Mr E. F. Hemingway, the chairman of the Wanganui Education Board, has completed 19 years’ service as a member of that body, during three of which he has been chairman. At Wednesday’s meeting of the bonrd he was the recipient of congratulations from members, tributes being paid to his zeal and unflagging interest in the cause of education.

Dr. Eugene Lynch, radium officer to the Wellington Hospital, who for the past twelve months has been doing post-graduate work in radiology in London and on the Continent, will return to New Zealand on August 16. Dr. Lynch recently gained the diploma in radiology of the University of London. During his visit to Europe Dr. Lynch had the opportunity of investigating the latest radiological methods. At the request of the Wellington division of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society lie has been studying the methods of administration and control at the cancer centres in London and Paris.
