MOTOR CYCLING

MANAWATU CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Mana-"w-atu Motor Club was held on "Wednesday, Mr E. V. West being in the chair. There was a fair attendance. The report presented by the secretary (Mr B. Palmer) read as follows:—“The club’s finances are still fairly low, although there was a slight profit shown on the year’s working. There was a small increase in the number of financial members. The committee were more than pleased that permission had once again been granted to the club to race at Awapuni after a lapse of over 10 years. Activities were entered upon with much enthusiasm and everything pointed to a record meeting being neh\, but owing to an exceptional counter attraction at Marton and also certain transport difficulties the ultimate result fell far short of expectations. However, these difficulties are not likely to recur and if we are ngain successful in securing the Awapuni racecourse I feel sure that the result will be much, more promising. The club is greatly indebted to the Manawatu Racing Club for the use of the course and also for granting us a substantial rebate off the rental, thus enabling us to show a small profit on the meeting. Every possible assistance was rendered us by the caretakers, and ive are grateful for their assistance. “Two very successful hill climbs were held in the early part of the season but .the committee did not deem it advisable to conduct anv trials. The committee, with Mr W. H. Brown at their head, have all worked wall whenever called upon. During the year two very valuable members of the committee, Messrs G. Adams and R. Limbrick, left, the district and their places were filled by Messrs A. A. Wood and K. Snell. The thanks of the club are 'due to tbe executive officers and committee for their efforts, to the many assistants at the race meeting, the Manawatu Racing Club, the donors of trophies, Mr A. Hancock for the use of bis office for meetings, to the Press and all others who have assisted the club.”

Mr W. H. Brown, who occuped the position of president last year, advised that he would not in future be able to occupy an executive position in the club because of his frequent absences from the city, although lie would be pleased to assist the club in any way fie could.
