In the last three years business lias been very bad and I have gradually fallen into debt. In particular last year the whole of my crop failed, largely due to the ravages of the white butterfly, and this has meant that I am not able to pay my creditors and have had no option hut to file my petition in bankruptcy. Had my crops been reasonably successful last year, it would not have l>een necessary for me to file my petition.” AVlien examined by the Deputy Official Assignee, bankrupt said ho was now living at his garden, hut it liad nothing in it. Ho was draining the property in the hope that someone might give him the chance of a fresh start. He had two children in China and four in New Zealand; he liad sent no money to China for some years. Unless assisted back to business, he would have to look for work.
