THE NAZI REGIME
GENERAL GOERING’S ORDER. TREATMENT OF CLERGY. ALLEGATION LEVELLED. (United Press Association.—-By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received July 19, 10.10 a.m. BERLIN, July 18. Accusing a section of the Catholic clergy of systematic political opposition to Nazism, General Goering has instructed the authorities to apply every legal means against clergy misusing their authority. He olqtcts to Catholics using the greeting, “Heil, Heavenly Fulirer,” and disapproves of Catholic youth associations with initials corresponding with those of Nazi organisations. The Daily Chronicle’s Berlin correspondent says the secret police have been instructed to listen to Catholic sermons. Priests guilty of antiNazi utterances will be sent to concentration camps. General Goering declares that scarcely a Sunday passes without the Mass being abused by the reading of political declarations. The Government will allow the priests to co-ope-rate in education only provided they unreservedly support Nazism.
