WINTER SHOW REVENUE.

GATE STEWARD'S REPORT. “The financial position of the 1935 Show clearly indicates a greater interest, and certainly the Show was an attractive one judging by the favourable comment on the part or tne patrons. The increase of £457 os od in the cash takings over the previous Winter Show, as well as a decided increase in attendances by ticket, must be regarded as exceptionally good, especially when it is mentioned that in the previous year the Women s Institutes display and the stadium contributed towards the cash receipts. This statement was made by the chief gate steward (Mr T. A. Hastings) in a report to the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, yesterday, upon the National Dany Show. “The total admissions for the four days,” lie added, “amounted to 43,012 persons—2l,3Bl by cash payments at the gates and 21,631 by ticket. This latter number includes school children’s passes, members ladies tickets Press, exhibitors, sideshow owners ’stall attendants, Womens Institute members, etc. Although school children within a radius of 50 miles of Palmerston North were admitted free noe lees than 2075 children paid for admission during the currency ot the Show. , . “The grandstands showed an increase of £ll 10s over the previous year. Ihe total taken this, year amounted to £ll9 9s 6d, against £lO7 19s 6d for 1934. . . .. , , “One very disappointing feature is the comparatively few who take advantage of the car parking facilities on the grounds. The charge is only one shilling now, and for the whole Show only 422 cars were paid for—on the first day 78, second day 131, third day 158, and fourth day 55. Members and the public generally should realise that their cars are in very safe keeping on the grounds and at the very low cost of one shilling many more should take advantage of the privilege, especially as hot water is provided free and every attention given to those whose cars are parked on the grounds. “The idea of abolishing all internal charges this year was decidedly popular with the public, and contributed to the success of the Show; the takings at which were £1530 12s 3d. Owing to° there being no entertainment charges this year the staff were reduced by four at an approximate saving of £l2 over the previous Show. The staff employed were 98 per cent, unemployed and did their work exceptionally well. I take this opportunity of thanking them all for their good service and loyalty.” Gratification was expressed by the president (Mr Jos. Batchelar) at the financial success of the Show, and a vote of appreciation was accorded Mr Hastings for his services.
