FAREWELL FUNCTION.
MRS G. GIBBS ENTERTAINED. Mrs Gordon Gibbs, who is leaving for America, was the guest of honour at a function held yesterday afternoon at the residence of Mrs G. A. Eliott, Fitzlierbert West, the hostesses being the executive of the Palmerston North Girl Guides’ Association, guiders and company committee representatives. Mrs Gibbs has been an enthusiastic guider, having had charge of the Hokowhitu and 2nd. Palmerston North companies. The pleasant nature of the afternoon enabled the company to wander about the grounds, the panorama seen there delighting the visitors. A competition engaged the attention of the company, the prize-winners being Miss B. Bailey and Mrs A. Zolirab. After partaking of afternoon tea, Miss McLagan (the president), in asking Mrs Gibbs to accept a book and flask of 6cent from the executive, guiders, Hokowhitu and 2nd. Palmerston North company committees, remarked that all regretted losing Mrs Gibbs anrl they were deeply grateful to her for her; work. All wished her every success' in the future and a full measure of happiness. Mrs Eliott (District Commissioner) added her appreciation of Mrs Gibbs’s assistance and the standard of her work and expressed the hope that she would have a happy sojourn in America and bring back ideas for future activities.
On behalf of the 2nd Company, Mrs Findlay Wilson conveyed their thanks for the interest Mrs Gibbs had aroused and hoped that the future would bring with it good things and Mrs Gibbs's return to their midst.
In conveying her appreciation for the kindly references and good wishes, Mrs Gibbs said her work with the Guides had been a pleasure and she had been fortunate in having much support from her company committees. She hoped to bring back new ideas that would be useful to guiding. Mrs J. G. Pearce and Miss M. Bourke were formally introduced to the gathering and welcomed into guiding circles. Before the gathering dispersed, Mrs A. E. Mansford conveyed a vote of thanks to Mrs Eliott for the use of her home for the gathering. In addition to Airs Eliott and Airs
