(To the Editor.) Sir, —In answer to your correspondent’s enquiry and your reply thereto, the following is the position regarding exemption from the payment of tax: The Unemployment Amendment Act of 1934 provides that men sixtyfive years of age and women aged sixty or over, may declare their exemption from payment of the charge on income other than salary or wages provided the total income from all sources does not exceed £lO4 per annum and operates from Alay 1, of this year. 1 Further provision is made enabling all persons to obtain exemption irrespective of age on or before the due date for payment of any instalment-, who can satisfy the Unemployment Board that by reason of any disability (whether physical or mental) they are unable to follow any regular employment, and that their income from all sources during the year was not in excess of £104.” Forms of declaration may be obtained at any money order office. Renewal of application for exemption must be made annually before the first day of Alay.—l am, etc., V- AI. J. LEE.
