PROTECTED MAN
STILL UNDER GUARD. CLOAK OF SILENCE. Per Press Association. . AUCKLAND, June 24. Victor Penny, who was assaulted at Takapuna last Wednesday night, is still in the Auckland Hospital under guard, and his house also continues to be guarded day and night. No official explanation is obtainable, the police preserving the closest secrecy. “SO-CALLED MYSTERY.” COMMISSIONER’S REFERENCE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. June 24. Describing it as a “ ‘Pennv’ halfpennv effort to drive away dull care,” the Commissioner of Police (Mr W. G. Wohlmann) laughed when questioned to-day about the Auckland account of the developments following the assault on Victor Penny, who is said to have made important electrical discoveries. He spoke of it as “this so-called mystery,” and would not take it seriously.
