LAUNCH IN CYCLONE
VOYAGE TO NORFOLK. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, June_24. After a stormy voyage to Norfolk Island, , tile Auckland 55ft fishing launch Melodian returned to port today. Leaving Auckland on .Tune 11, the Melodian called at Whangarei and sailed from there for Norfolk on June 14. . About 200 miles from the island she ran into the tail end of the cyclone that had damaged other vessels in the Tasman Sea. During the next few days the Melodian was twice hove-to. once for eight hours and the second time for 12 hours. Heavy seas came aboard, one breaking over the top of the funnel and pouring into the engineroom. For ree days the crew, had nothing to eat but biscuits, although they were twice able to boil a kettle and make a cup of tea. Under the conditions the little vessel behaved admirably, said Captain Anderson. At Norfolk Island, where they arrived on June 18. the crew found That the gale had uprooted many of the famous pine trees on the island. The Melodian left Norfolk on June 21.
