SAD FATALITY.

MR E. W. CARTER’S SON KILLED

The Palmerston North friends of Mr and Mrs E. W. E. Carter will deeply regret to learn of their sad bereavement in the death of their son Rex Ernest, while out shooting. The body of the youth, who was 18 years of age, was found beside a fence on a farm property at Turakina last evening, a rifle beside the body leading to the assumption that he had been accidentally killed while getting through a fence. With his father, Mr Carter had been at Turakina beach, but left during the afternoon to do some shooting over some paddocks midway between the beach and the main road. When he did not return as dusk came on a search was commenced resulting in Mr Carter finding the body of his son under the tragic circumstances indicated. The rifle had been discharged and the bullet had entered the head of the youth. Mr Carter was for several ’-ears a senior member of the railway staff at Palmerston North and was prominently identified with the Terrace End Bowling and Tennis Club, playing in both pastimes and winning a very fair measure of success. Since leaving Palmerston North he has been stationed at Inglewood and at Dunedin, and is at present stationmaster at Wanganui. The deceased vouth was a grandson of Mr and Mrs C. F. Purton, 24 Linton Street, Palmerston North.
