A NEW HEADMASTER

MR F. W. GILLIGAN APPOINTED

Per Press Association. WANGANUI, June 24. The appointment is announced of Mr F. W. Gilligan, M.A. (Oxon.), to be! headmaster of the Wanganui Collegiate School to replace Mr J. Allen, who is retiring at fne end of the year at his own request. Mr Gilligan. who is 42 years of age, was educated at Dulwich and Worcester College (Oxford), obtaining an exhibition at Worcester. He was in residence there in 1913 and 1914, but on the outbreak of the war joined the Essex Regiment, holding the rank of captain and adjutant. After the war he resumed his studies and graduated .with honours in .English in 1920. He was appointed a master at Uppingham and headmaster in 1923. He has been there ever since.

At Dulwich Mr Gilligan represented the school both at football and cricket. He won his cricket “Blue” at Oxford. Since then he has played for Essex, He will assume his duties here at the beginning of the first term in 1936. He is the eldest brother of the three famous cricketers.
