LICENSED LORRIES.

AUTHORITY’S FURTHER DECISIONS.

The No. 6 Transport Licensing Authority’s sitting at Palmerston North was continued yesterday. The authority comprises Messrs G. A. Troup (chairman), W. 1; Armstrong and S. Jickell. H. J. , Williams (Feiling), represented by Mr Knight (Wellington), sought a renewal of a two-vehicle license for Wellington-Feilding, traffic, without amendments except those granted two months ago. Alternative routes, through Palmerston North or through Rongotea or Oroua .Downs, were requested. The application was granted, with a defined route through Palmerston North to suit the city’* traffic manager. J. R. Hurley (Palmerston North) asked for renewal of a one-vehicle authority between Palmerston North and Wellington, without amendments. —Granted.

J. McLeavev (Tokomaru) was granted a renewal without amendments for one vehicle on the route to AVellington, carrying market and garden produce. Richard Sunnex (Paliiatua) was granted a renewal without amendments.

D. H. Thompson (Rongotea) sought, together with a renewal of his area license, a route license to Wanganui for carting stock to works at Imlay. Mr W. Seliierning, for the Railways Department, voiced strong objections. It was a traffic the department had long handled satisfactorily, he declared. Mr Knight for applicant, produced a letter from the manager of the Imlay works stating that the granting of the license would not affect the business of the railways, for unless direct motor, transport were granted, they would be unable to buy competitively in the district. There were no complaints with the railway service, said Mr Schierning. It was not correct that bruising of lambs was more prevalent in railway trucks than in motor trucks. Renewal of the 'area license was granted, but the decision on the amendment was adjourned for delivery on Monday. Edwards Transport (Otaki), represented by Mr Knight, sought a renewal for five vehicle authorities without amendment. —Granted.' J. M. Thompson (Foxton) was given a renewal of a one-vehicle authority on the Wellington-Phlmerston North route. R. F. Churcher (Apiti) who previously had a route license, ' Apiti to Feilding, sought an amendment to allow deviations of five miles along the route, an extension to Palmerston North, and permission to take fat stock to Longburn. Mr J. Graham (.Feilding), who represented applicant, said his client definitely had work offering to warrant a right of deviation, and had been obliged to use a number of temporary licenses. A number of letters from Palmerston North business houses were produced, testifying to the necessity of a direct service to Apiti. Decision was reserved until Monday afternoon. H. B. W. Osborne (Foxton) sought a renewal of his three-vehicle authorities, and an increase of the number of. trips from Wellington to Foxton' from two weekly to three.—The application. was granted. D. M. Conway (PahiatuaV was granted renewal of an area and routelicense without amendments. Currie Bros.( Ashhurst) sought a renewal. of their continuous and seasonal licenses. The former, for five; vehicle authorities, was renewed without alteration of area or conditions. The seasonal license was for three vehicles in the same counties. A. S. MacFarlane (Levin) was granted a renewal of three authoritiee, one an area license and the other' two for the route Levin to Wellington. Pask and Dyke (Feilding) were renewed in an area license in several adjacent counties for two vehicles.
