OBITUARY.

MR PHOMEN SINGH. A member of the Indian race who, by reason of his occupation of manufacturing confectioner had made many business associations throughout the Dominion, Mr Phomen Singh, passed away at his residence, 16 Andrew Young Street, on Monday after a long period of ill-health. It was as a young man of 22 years that Mr Singh left his native town in the Punjab, India, td migrate to Australia, and after being a resident there for three years he came to New Zealand, where he entered into business in Wellington for three years prior to removing to Wanganui. It was in the River City that he married Miss Margaret Ford, who had come from England a few years previously, in 189/, and they continued to reside there for the ensuing 16 years. Mr Singh had then been engaged in manufacturing confectionery for the wholesale trade, and he established a business in New Plymouth which he made his headquarters for eight years prior to coming to Palmerston North in 1923 . Unfortunately, Mr Singh’s health becam© indifferent and he undertook a health recruiting trip to his native land, returning to the Dominion last November after having spent a year and eight months abroad. However, the trip effected only a temporary improvement and his condition gradually became worse. . In addition to Ins widow, there are left to mourn their loss a family of three sons and one daughter, the members being Messrs Ranjit, Leo and Esive Singh, of Palmerston North, and Mrs Santa Singh, of Auckland. There are also eight grandchildren. Mr Singh’s only brother is a resident of India. , . The funeral service was held at the Ivarori Crematorium, Wellington, on Wednesday.
