BATTLE OF WORDS.
TRIUMPH OVER THE DUCE
LONDON, May 26. When the text of the League of Nations’ resolution originally was sent to Signor Mussolini it was telegraphed back from Rome disfigured with a mass of mutilations. Mr Eden and M. Laval (French Minister of Foreign Affairs) sent the resolution back in its original form for it to bo returned with fewer mutilations, II Duce then desiring the elimination of League intervention in the 1 event of the ItaloAbvssinian treatv breaking down. Air Eden realised that the League might founder on this. Ho reasserted himself, countering the attempt of Baron Aloisi to turn the words ‘ League would meet” into “League may meet.” upon which Mr Eden and M. Laval fought for thirty-five minutes. They eventually won. and this resulted in the resolution being a third time dispatched to 11 Duce, who accepted it.
