EVIDENCE AT HOME. LONDON, May 25. The Stock Exchange had to contend with a number of worrying events last week, notably the troubles over the gold bloc, France’s continuous loss of gold and the uncertainty of that country’s financial position, the Abyssinian situation, and tire announcement of the expansion ot our air force, which means heavy expenditure and impairs the chances of any relief from taxation. , _ , , The Chancellor of. the Exchequer s recent reference to trade booming seems to have had considerable just - fication for reports from almost all centres of industry mention increased business. Moreover, the latest evidence suggests.that the improvement is likely to be maintained during the coming months. , . The increase in employment dining April was not only fairly general, bpt more marked than during the corrponding periods of 1933 and IdolThe improvement was most pronounced in the coalmining and wool textile industries. Increases were also recorded in many other industries, including engineering} iroiifou.ndi.ng, shipbuilding, repairing electrical cable apparatus, manufacturing dress•makirig, millinery, furniture trades, cotton manufacturing, printing anti bookbinding, public works contracting, load transport, and shipping. All districts in the country showed a reduction in unemployment.
