MATCHES IN THE MANAWATU. Finer weather Ilian had been experienced for some weeks past prevailed on Saturday afternoon for tlve continuation of the Manawatu Football Association’s competition matches at North Street Park. Despite the heavy downpour during the week the play-] ing areas were in fairly good condition following the drying winds and did not retard the players in their tactics. In the senior series success went to To Awe Awe in their match with Rovers, and Athletic and St. Paul’s drew. AN EVEN CONTEST. One of the most even matches seen this season was that between Athletic and St. Paul’s, the score of 1-all being fully indicative of Hie performances of the teams. The players were : St. Paul’s. —Zimmerman, Young, Kay. Marshall, Corkindale, Bycroft, Smillie, Lyon, Lock, Thompson, Ridley. Athletic.—Hearsay, Askant, 1 ravers, H. Childs, Jeromson, Cummings, Buck, T. Crowe, Watt, Elliott, McSheffrey. Throughout the whole of the first spell play was of an exceptionally fast nature, and the scene of operations constantly changed. At hall-time Buck had scored from a cross by McSheffrey for Athletic, and Lyon had netted lor St. Paul’s. With the change of sides the Saints showed even more enterprise in their forward work and penetrated with abandon, but the backs on the defence gave as good as they received. It was a scoreless period, but lwth sets of forwards hammered away incessantly, and a great deal ol pretty football was displayed, little loose tactics being in evidence. St. Paul’s bad the services of Corkindale, an eistwhile prominent St. Andrew’s player, and also fielded Kay for the first time, while the Athletic side turned their combination and experience to excellent advantage. Air F. AV. Ivev was the referee. THE TE AWE AWE YICTORY.

Te Awe Awe scored a fairly decisive win when they lifted the honours from Rovers to the" tune of six goals to two. At half-time the score was--1,1 —1, but more even plav was thereafter in evidence. The teams were: T e Awe Awe. —Collins, Kcmpson, Downes, Curtis. Holden, Bridge McGill. Waine, W. Young, Boag. Allen. Rovers. —Hart. Ormond. Brotherstone. Yorke, Newton. Donelly, M. Davidson, Green, McNair, Richardson, La ing. Te Awe Awe, whose record so tar this season is a very creditable one, played vigorous football in tire opening spell and it appeared as though lather one-sided scoring would result, but Rovers rallied to the challenge very well. There were two or three particularly active players in the winning side and they were well supported generally, whereas there was comparatively little cohesion among the Rovers. ' Holden. Allen (2). and Young netted for'To Awe Awe in the first spell and Newton for Rovers. In the second hall Holden and Allen again goaled. Davidson lessening the margin for Rovers. Mr S. .T. Bennett was the referee. the lower grades. The lower grade matches resulted as follow: Fourth grade. —Ie Awe Awe -1 v. Y.M.C.A. I); St. Paul's 3 v. Rovers o
