ALLEGED THEFT.

ACTOR UNDER ARREST. NEAV YORK, March 13. George Arthur Grest, better known by the screen name of George Arthur, who was formerly tho British stage comedian, was arrested upon arrival from Nassau to-day on a charge of stealing a valuable • bracelet from Air Stephen Raphael, a London banker, at Cannes. Acording to the police the information against Arthur was supplied by a New. York society woman, who on the request of Arthur and not knowing it to be stolen property, brought the bracelet to America and later gave it to him here. Arthur is held under a technical indictment of smuggling, although he may be deported to France to stand trial for theft. Arthur gained considerable prominence in silent motion pictures when teamed with the late Karl Dane, but since the “talkies” lias been inactive.
