FEBRUARY BUTTERFAT.

ADVANCE OF 8d PER LB. An advance of 8d per lb against February butterfat supplies lias been decided upon by the Rangitikei, Kairanga, Awahuri, Cheltenham, N.Z. Farmers' Dairy Union, Rongotea, and Whakarongo dairy companies, the rate comparing favourably with the advance of 6d per lb made last February. A general decrease in their butter output for the month is reported byall the above companies. In addition to the above the Whakarongo Dairy Company is advancing lid per lb. of butterfat in connection with casein. . . Discussing the dairy situation with a prominent official in the industry, it was stated that a general indication of the effect of the exceptionally dry summer conditions experienced m this district was found in the total amount paid out by 7 one of the main factories in the Manawatu for February, 1934, and last month. In February, 1934. this company had paid out £12,/94 for the month’s butterlat supplies, while this -pear the advance for the same month was £12,325. It would thus be seen that although suppliers were receiving 2d per lb more this February than in the same month last year, they were actually receiving in cash £469 less than they had in February, 1934. This state of affairs had been brought about by the decreased production as the result of the recent drought. However, since the more favourable weather conditions following the breaking of the drought, pastures had come away well and supplies to factories had been fairly well maintained.
