The death occurred yesterday, at Miramar, of Mr Alexander Banald Crawford, aged 72, a member of one of Wellington’s most prominent pioneering families and a one time part owner of the original Miramar Estate. He is survived by his widow, who wa* a daughter of the late Dr. Thomas Bennett, of Bulls. Mr Charles Crawford, his brother, resides in Scotland. Mr W. H. Wilson was elected a life member of tlie Mana.watu Hockey empires’ Association at the association’s annual meeting, last night, as a mark of recognition of his services over a long period of yeans. Mr TV ilson joined the association in 1926 and last year was elected president, retiring from that position at the annual meeting. For the past two seasons Mr Wilson has been the association’s grading officer. , The death occurred suddenly at Auckland last night of Mr .T. J- Wilson, of Dunedin, for many years subeditor ol the Tablet and a leading ■authority on the history of the Roman Catholic Church in New Zealand. Mr Wilson, who was 73 years of age, says a Press Association message, retired last voar and for some months had been staying in Auckland. He was _very well known in Roman Catholic circles throughout the Dominion by reason of his journalistic work and also as author of “The Church in New Zealand.” Mr H. R. Crawford, who for many years has taken . a keen interest in Rugby football in the Manawatu district and in the organisation and fortunes of the Kia Toa Club in particular, was elected a life member at last evening’s annual meeting of the club. The president (Mr A. M. Ongley) said that in all his long experience ol Rugby football he had not known such an outstanding club administrator as Mr Crawford. His proposal as a life member was not a suggestion to “pension him off,” but was in recognition of his valuable services Mr Crawford had given the club over many years. The motion appointing Mr Crawford a life member was carried with hearty acclamation. Mr Crawford’s association with the chib commenced in 1905 when he joined as a playing member, and he continued as such until 1912. For the last ten years he has held the position of delegate to the Manawatu Rugby Union, wi®i a seat on its management committee.
