RATING LIABILITY.

MORTGAGEES’ RESPONSIBILITIES. The Makerua Drainage Board discussed at its meeting to-day the matter of the liability for rates to be recognised by the Mortgage Corporation. Lynch remarked that the Crown seemed to regard the liability for rates only as a moral obligation. He thought that the board should approach Mr J. Linklater, M.P., asking him to urge that the corporation should be responsible for all rates. The board passed a motion to that effect unanimously.
