RATING LIABILITY.
MORTGAGEES’ RESPONSIBILITIES. The Makerua Drainage Board discussed at its meeting to-day the matter of the liability for rates to be recognised by the Mortgage Corporation. It was mentioned that the corporation would be responsible for rates under new mortgages over land, but not for arrears of rates on mortgages transferred to it by the Crown. Mr I’. D. Lynch remarked that the Crown seemed to regard the liability for rates only as a moral obligation. He thought that the board should approach Mr J. Linklater, M.P., asking him to urge that the corporation should be responsible for all rates. The board passed a motion to that effect unanimously.
