MANAWATU ASSOCIATION, A meeting of the Manawatu Cricket Association was held on Tuesday, when Mr A. M. Ongley presided. Others present were Messrs E. J. Werry, W. H. Wilson,, J. Gavey, G. Griggs, At. O’Keete, F. Hubbard, E. Weir, N. Gallichan and R. A, Brace (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr W. E. Norris. The Southland Association advised that its team would leave Invercargill on Thursday. Arrangements were made for the entertainment of the j Southland team on Sunday by taking ! them for a motor run in the afternoon, | the Y.AI.C.A. camp at Poliangina being i suggested. It was decided to invite cricket enthusiasts to assist in the conveyance of the visitors.

On the chairman’s suggestion it was agreed that the admission charges for the Hawke Cup match be reduced in the late afternoon on Monday and Tuesday. The New Zealand Cricket Association advised that, at the request of the Wanganui Association, it had been decided to defer consideration of the rules until tile biennial conference to be held in November.—Received.

The Wanganui Association, writing in respect to the interpretation of the clauses emanating from the conference of minor associations at Wellington, stated that its delegate was of the opinion that the playing of a preliminary match by 22 country players in Wellington prior to the Town v. Country match was not made a necessary condition for the playing of the Town v. Country game, and also that it was not arranged that there should be collaboration between the Town v. Country selectors in the selection of the Country team. “We quite agree,” added the writer, “that the time might be awkward in view of Hawke Cup elimination games being played at that period.” Writing in respect to the same matter, the Nelson Cricket Association/, on the other hand, considered the opportunity too good to be allowed to pass, although it was recognised that the playing of two matches so close together would be offering some difficulty. One way out would be the playing of the County match of 22 players towards the end of one season and the Town v. Country match the following December.—Received. The Manawatu Umpires’ Association advised that it had been decided to establish a grading list of umpires, and asked that a committee of- two members of the association be set up to collaborate with three members of the Umpires’ Association, the team captains to furnish confidential reports on the umpires officiating.—Alessrs Ongley and Gallichau were appointed to act for the association on the committee.

Tlie Mannwatu Umpires’ Association also t'onvarded the names of four officials available to control the Hawke Cup fixture with Southland. —Messrs G. K. Holder and C. Woodham were appointed to control the match. The Y.M.C.A. Club made application to take a team to Napier and Hastings at Easter, and also to play their annual match with the Wellington Association on Saturday.—Both requests were agreed to, the game on Saturday being set down for Terrace End Park. The same club also made application for the registration of L. Laurenson as a junior A player.—Agreed to. On the occasion of the match between High School and Kiwi A in the Saturday junior A competitions, played at North Street Park, a discrepancy occurred between the two score books. At an earlier meeting of the association it had been ruled that High School had won. Mr R. Weston, captain of the Kiwi team, waited on the meeting to explain the circumstances, while Mr Lewis, one of the umpires, also attended a ncl explained that he had checked the books and had observed that one no-ball had not been included in tlie Kiwi innings.—Following a discussion, it was decided to communicate with O’Kane, the High School captain, who had departed from Palmerston North, asking him for his recollection of .what occurred after the fall of the seventh wicket, who was the scorer at that stage and what arrangements were entered'into after the match. It was further decided to call in both books for checking purposesIn response to an enquiry relative to the points of the competing teams in the junior B series, the positions are given hereunder: —High School, 493; Kiwi A, 443 ; Y.M.C.A,, 25; Old Boys, •243 • Combined Services and City Council 203; United, 163, Kiwi B 6. High School, the leading eleven, have only suffered the one reverse—against Y.M.C.A. (in the first game after the holidays), while they shared the points with Kiwi A on one occasion. The result of their last meeting with Kiwi A is in dispute, but the points have meantime been credited to High School.
