(From Our Own Correspondent.) SANDON, March 12. Mr R. Nicol lias presented the Sanson Tennis dub with two gold stars and two silver buttons for challenge competition amongst members. The gold stars are for A grade and the buttons for B grade. The competition which was started last week has aroused great interest and has had the effect of drawing a large number of members each evening. The stars are to be held for a season by the pair who gain the most points during the season. At present W. Aitken and Miss M. Butler are the holders of the stars and L. Andrew and Miss J. Davey the holders of the B grade trophies. A successful concert and dance organised by tho Tennis Club was held in the Town Hall, Sanson, on Friday evening. A concert party under the leadership of Messrs Chapman Bios, gave an excel.ent performance. Tho following rendered items- Miss J. Thompson, Mrs J. McLachlan, and Messrs R. Sunborn, W. Allan and R. V. Voss. After tho concert an auction was held and resulted in the raising of an excellent sum. the conclusion of the evening the president (Mi A. Sanson) thanked the entertainers for their assistance, especially Messrs Chapman Bros, who led the party. He stated that they were always ready to help at any time and he was grateful for their assistance. llg then took the oppoitunit3 f of thanking Mr R. Nicol for his generous action in presenting the club with two gold stars and two silver buttons. He said it was typical of Mr Nicol who was always helping the community. Dancing then continued to a late hour to music supplied by Mrs Butler’s orchestra. The Halcombe Tennis Club played an all day match against the Sanson Tennis Club during tho week-end. The weather was perfect and an enjoyable day was spent. Halcombe won by the narrow marpin of 6 games, tho sets being lo aln. During the course of tho afternoon the president of tho Sanson Club (Mr A. Sanson) expressed on behalf of the membois their pleasure in having the Halcombe team. Ho hoped that they had enjoyed themselves and said that the Sanson C*ub were looking forward to the return match. Tho following are results, Sanson players being mentioned first: Men s singles. S.
