LOUD BLED I SLOE’S HOPES. THE COMING CENTENARY. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 12. In his speech at a complimentary luncheon at Parliament Buildings today, Lord B'.edisloe spoke of the friendliness in which memuers of the Legislature and himself had travelled together tor the last tew years through a period cf tribulation. He ‘congratulated both Houses on the dignity and decorum which characterised their proceedings. He had been given to understand by experienced and observant world travellers that in no other Parliament in the Empire were these features more marked, and certainly nowhere was the spirit of good fellowship and personal friendliness among political opponents more effectively maintained. Referring to the coming Centenary celebrations five years hence, His Excellency expressed the hope that he and the Lady B'.edisloe would be visitors. He hoped the celebration would bo made a great national event. “Let the shades of Hobson and Gibbon Wakefield shake hands in eternal friendship, as they watch the proceedings, whether at Waitangi or elsewhere, with Godley and Cargill as sympathetic comrades and ami:i the plaudits of W'anaka Nene, Hone Heke, Te Rauparaha, Wiromu Tamihana, and other redoubtable Mauri chiefs, all convinced with the lapse of time of the advantages to their ancient race of British citienship and protection,” said Lord Bledisloe
