LONG HOURS.

In reply to an invitation from the Premier to give specific cases of alleged injustice to workers through the cancellation of compulsory arbitration, the secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Shop Assistants cites flit case of a girl of 16 years employed Tri a Dunedin dairy shop working 10 hours daily for five days a week without a meal hour, and for 13 hours on Fridays a.nd three hours on Sundays. On the case being reported to the local Labour Department, an officer informed the ,union that nothing was possible as the assistant had been constituted a manageress. It was stated that there were many similar cases in Dunedin, where such girls were defined as manageresses.
