(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, March 9. Through a chair on which she was standing collapsing, AI rs Ci K. Woodroofe was thrown heavily to tho floor and sustained a fracturo of her left arm just above the wrist. Air and Airs S. J. Hitrvey left. Foxton to-day to take up their residence in Palmerston North. Air and Airs Y. AlcDowell leave Foxton on Tuesday to reside in Palmerston North where Air McDowell has accepted a position. Air and Airs AlcDowell have beep residents of Foxton since 1914 and for tho past eleven years Air AlcDowell has been a popular driver of the Aladgo Motor Service Palmerston North : Foxton-Shannon charabanc.

The .death occurred at Otaki, yesterday, of Mrs J. D. Howell, a former Foxton resident. She had been ill for some time. Mrs Collier, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs H. Berry, of Thynne Street, returned to Wellington yesterday. The death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital on Friday night, after a brief illness, of a well-known Foxton resident, in the person of Mr Arthur Kruse, aged 69 years. Mr Kruse was born at Bright Water, Nelson, in 1866 and took up his residence in Foxton forty years ago. His wife predeceased him seven months ago. Ho loaves two daughters (Mesdames 0. Nelson, of Norbiton Road, and W. Aiden, of Robinson Street), and five grandchildren to mourn their loss. Last evening local businessmen met to bid farewell to Mr S. J. Harvey, who recently disposed of his business to Mr J. A. Aitchison, of Palmerston North. The function was held under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce and «a.s presided over by Mr C. R. Tutty (vice-presi-dent). Apologies for abscnco were received from Messrs F. C. Raikes (president) and J K. Hornblow. There was a large and representative attendance. A song was contributed by Mr W. M. Thomas and a monologue by Mr G. F. Smith. Mr Harvey was made the recipient of a token of esteem by Mr Tutty on behalf of the guest's fellow business people. Mr Tutty referred to Mr and Mrs Harvey’s business associations with Foxton and said that these had at all times been most pleasant, and they would both be missed from the community. As a member of the Chamber of Comerce, Mr Harvey had proved himself to be an energetic and enthusiastic worker on behalf of the town, and everyone appreciated him for what he had done. Mr Tutty conveyed the best wishes of Foxton business people to both Air and Airs Harvey, and while voicing their regret at their impending departure, wished them health and prosperity in their new sphere of activity. The Mayor (Air Al. E. Perreau).-Air Jno. Ross, DcputyAlayor and president of the Foxton Bowling Club, Cr D. R. Barron, Alessrs D. Christie, H. Osborne, T. ChafTey, E., \V. Thane, J. Shorthouee, R. Bryant, and E. Titcombe added their eulogies of the guest of the evening. Air Harvey, in acknowledging the gilt and good wishes, said that he had derived much pleasure from his association with the Foxton Borough Council and no smal.l amount of education. His connection with the Benedicts had been a real pleasure and he would miss. very much this particular side of his activities after ho left Foxton. Although only a new member of the Bowling Club he had been finding an increased interest in this sport and would miss his associations on the green. The Chamber of Coinerce had been the first local body he been connected with after his arrival in Foxton and ho had taken a very active interest in its activities until illness and pressure of business bad prevented his regular attendance at meetings of more recent date. Ho regretted that it had been necessary for him to leave Foxton, but ill-health on the part of his wife had made it imperative that they should. Both ho and his wife would miss very much the many attachments they had made during their sojourn in Foxton and they would a'wavs look hack with pleasure on their peiiod of residence here. Crowded attendances were the rule both afternoon and evening on Friday at the missionary exhibition in All Saints’ schoolroom, organised by 1 the New Zealand Anglican Board of Missions. The monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening, Air M. E. Pen-can (Mayor), presiding. Alotions of sympathy wore extended to the relatives of the late Mr H. P. Berry, Air H. J. Reid, a council employee, and Air A. Kruse, a very old Foxton resident. Accounts amounting to £925 2s 5d were passed for payment. The road foreman reported that during the month tho road staff had boon engaged on various works, which ho detailed. The waterworks foreman reported on .work done during tho month. The gasworks manager reported that during February there, were made at the works 283,100 cubic feet of gas and 243 tons fo coal were used. It was decided to establish a new rubbish depot, on the banks of the Manawatu River on Mr Oavis s property.
